Friday, May 22, 2020 – President Uhuru Kenyatta would not be alive today were it not for Uganda’s Internal Security Organisation (ISO).
According to Africa Confidential, Uganda’s security agency foiled a plot to assassinate President Uhuru Kenyatta on 19th January 2019.
The plot, according to the paper, involved a lone suicide bomber who had already gained access to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and was planning to assassinate the President on January 23rd, 2019, when the Head of State was heading to Eritrea for an official function.
But on January 17th, 2019, the assassin got wind that Uhuru was going to attend the burial of his friend, Bruce Odhiambo, who was also his school mate at St Mary School, Nairobi.
The assassin went to Kisumu for the burial but luckily a Ugandan ISO agent got wind of the plot and approached ODM Party leader, Raila Odinga’s bodyguard, and informed him about a plan to assassinate the Head of State.
Uhuru‘s plane to Nairobi was delayed for four hours at Kisumu Airport as bomb experts combed the area.
As bomb experts were combing the area, Raila took Uhuru to a secret hotel in Kisumu where they had dinner and some few glasses of whisky.
After sweeping his plane and the airport, the President was allowed to fly to Nairobi under tight security.
The assassin was not found but ISO sources said he was a Lebanese national who was contracted by Deputy President William Ruto to carry out the assassination of the Son of Jomo.
Dr Ruto gave him the job when he went to Sudan and met with deposed Sudanese leader, Omar Al Bashir.
