Tuesday, May 12, 2020 – Embattle Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, has lost over Sh400, 000 in salary and allowances after he was axed as the Senate Majority Leader.
The leaders of majority and minority receive over Sh 200, 000 on top of a normal MP’s salary plus a Responsibility Allowance of about Sh 138, 000 monthly according to National Assembly Minority Leader, John Mbadi.
“The office holders also have staff hired for them, including a Researcher, Policy Analyst, and Legal Officer.”
“There is also a Secretary, Personal Assistant, and an Office Assistant.”
“So the moment you lose your seat, those staff are rendered jobless and the vehicles surrendered,” Mbadi said.
Besides allowances and salary loss, Murkomen’s pension will also be affected.
Murkomen is among Jubilee leaders allied to DP William Ruto who have lost their lucrative posts in the Senate leadership.
Their fate was sealed during a Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting that brought together Senators from Jubilee Party and the Kenya African National Union (KANU) at State House, Nairobi.
However, the changes have been suspended after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal suspended the KANU-Jubilee pact pending the hearing of their case.
