Tuesday May 26, 2020 – National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga, has defended the Ministry of Health against accusations that officials in that Ministry have looted Sh 40 billion meant for fighting Coronavirus.
Early this month, the Ministry led by CS Mutahi Kagwe came under sharp criticism, when it presented a report that laid bare massive misappropriation of funds with some millions allocated on less essential expenses such as tea and airtime.
But speaking on Milele FM on Tuesday, Raila dismissed these allegations as baseless, challenging those with facts to present them to relevant authorities.
The former Premier argued that tea was necessary and people working to combat the pandemic should be allowed to enjoy a cup or two.
“Nani amefanya hesabu akagundua kwamba pesa zimepotea.”
“Kama ni chai, lazima watu wakunywe chai”
“Who has done the math and established that money was lost?”
“If it is tea, people must take tea,” he said.
The Ministry spent Sh 2 million on airtime and Sh 4 million on tea and snacks since the first case of Coronavirus was confirmed in Kenya on March 13th, 2020.
