Sunday, May 17, 2020 – Kenya has recorded 57 new Covid19 cases – the highest single day increase in infections of the deadly virus in the country so far.

Government spokesperson, Col. Cyrus Oguna, said the 57 were from 2,198 samples tested bringing the total number of positive cases in Kenya to 887.

The distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows: Mombasa (35), Nairobi (17), Kajiado (3), Kwale (1) and Kitui (1).

“Thirty-four of the positive cases are males, and 23 are females.”

“The youngest of the cases is two years old while the oldest is 61 years.”

“Cumulatively, we have so far tested 43,712 samples,” Oguna said.

Out of the 35 cases in Mombasa, 22 were recorded in Mvita, Likoni (4), Changamwe and Nyali have three cases each, Kisauni (2) and Jomvu one case.

In Nairobi, the 17 cases are distributed in the following estates: Kibra (9), a mandatory quarantine centre in Nairobi two cases, and Eastleigh two cases.

Aga Khan Hospital, Kamulu, Dandora and Pangani have one case each.

Kwale has one case in Msambweni, Kitui has one case in Mwingi Town, while the three in Kajiado are from Kajiado Central (2) and Kajiado North with one case.

On the bright side, 12 more patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of people who have so far recovered from coronavirus to 313.

The death toll from the Covid19 in the country remains at 50.
