Friday, May 29, 2020 – The number of positive Covid-19 cases in Kenya has jumped to 1,745 after 127 new cases were confirmed over the last 24 hours.
Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefs, Health Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, announced the new cases were confirmed from 3,831 samples.
Nairobi registered the highest number of new infections with 76 cases, Mombasa 19, Busia 16, Uasin Gishu 8, Kiambu 2, Kajiado 5, Isiolo 1.
CAS Mwangangi also announced that 17 patients had been discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 438.
On a sad note, 4 patients, who are all from Mombasa, succumbed to the deadly virus bringing the total number of deaths to 62.
According to Dr. Mwangangi, the high figures are as a result of the high number of people being tested for coronavirus and that the disease is in the community.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mwangangi implored Kenyans to continue adhering to laid down containment measures insisting that we are not out of the woods yet.
“We have noted that some people have thrown caution to the wind…life is back to normal.
Containment measures are being disregarded in estates, matatus, supermarkets, banks.
“The situation has not stabilized… A negative test is not a ticket to ignore measures”
