Thursday, May 28, 2020 – The number of coronavirus cases in Kenya has surged to 1,618 after a record 147 cases were confirmed over the last 24 hours.

Addressing the nation during the daily Covid-19 briefing from Kiambu County, Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe, said 2,831 samples were tested and all the new cases are Kenyan nationals.

Nairobi accounts for 90 cases with Kibra leading with 35 cases, Lang’ata-15, Makadara-9, Westlands-8, Embakasi Central-6, Embakasi West-5, Kamukunji-2, and Mathare-1.

Men also recorded the highest number of cases with 87 new cases being male and 60 being female.

The youngest patient is a one-year-old child and the oldest is 77 years old.

In the same vein, the CS announced that three patients have died (1 Kiambu, 2 Mombasa) over the last 24 hours taking the death toll due to Covid-19 to 58.

On the bright side, 13 patients have been discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 421.

Kagwe also appealed to Kenyans to take their kin to hospital

“Don’t let someone die at home, if you have a sick patient don’t hesitate to take them to hospital,” said Kagwe.
