Saturday, 23 May 2020 – More details on how missing city ‘businessman’ Dafton Mwitiki lived a double life have emerged.

According to police investigations, Mwitiki is linked to a kidnap gang that abducted the granddaughter of the late wealthy politician, Mark Too, and obtained a ransom of Ksh 4 million early this year.

She was abducted from their house in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa on January 13th and driven to Kisumu by the notorious kidnap gang that was reportedly led by Dafton Mwitiki.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Ksh 2o million to release Mark Too’s grandchild, who is a University student.

President Uhuru Kenyatta reportedly instructed police to swing into action after he was informed about the incident and security agencies managed to trace her.

However, the politician’s family went against police advice of negotiating for ransom with the gang and paid a ransom of Ksh 4 million to Mwitiki and his gang.

The ransom was dropped at a makeshift structure near Maseno University on January 17th by the abducted lady’s relative.

A masked man took the bag that had the money and stashed it into a waiting car.

They then sped off and promised to release the abducted lady and warned the family against involving the police.

Shortly after, the lady was released by the kidnappers and drove back to Nairobi with the relative who had gone to pay the ransom.

Police investigations revealed that the mobile number used by the gang to communicate with the family was registered to Mwitiki.

Mwitiki was also involved in the kidnapping of a Chinese businessman in February this year.

He was demanding a ransom of Ksh 100 million but the man was rescued and 4 suspects, including a police officer, killed during the rescue operation.

He has been missing for 2 months after his car was found abandoned near a coffee farm in Juja.

Mwitiki came to the limelight after he was pictured at Dusit during an Al Shabaab terror attack alongside Steve Mbogo, another controversial businessman linked to dirty deals, holding high caliber guns.
