Tuesday, May 19, 2020 – The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country has increased by 51 more people over the last 24 hours to stand at 963.
The new cases were confirmed out of 1,933 samples tested in the past 24 hours.
Speaking during the daily brief on the situation of the Covid-19 in the country, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe raised concerns over the rate of new infections.
On a positive note, CS Kagwe revealed that there was no new fatality leaving the number of fatalities so far at 50.
Out of the 50 fatalities, Mombasa County accounts for 27 trailed by Nairobi with 20.
“We should make it clear that the rising deaths in Mombasa is as a result of people dying at home,” said Mr. Kagwe.
On the same note, Kagwe hailed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho for the containment measures that he has put in place to curb the spread of the virus.
The number of recoveries from the coronavirus has also gone up with 22 people being discharged from hospital bringing the total number to 358.
On the Kenya-Tanzania border stand-off, the CS defended the decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to close the border, saying that 182 out of the 214 Covid19 cases detected on the border with Tanzania are foreigners.
