Friday May 5, 2020 – On Wednesday this week, Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe imposed a total lockdown in Eastleigh and Old Town in Mombasa over the spread of Coronavirus.
Addressing the press, Kagwe said that there will be no movement in and out of the areas effective Wednesday at 7 pm for 15 days.
“You cannot leave the area to go to another area.”
“This will take place for 15 days,” Kagwe said.
But on Thursday, members of the Eastleigh Business District Association protested the move saying Eastleigh is not a hotspot of COVID19 as the Government has been claiming.
The residents said that those who have turned positive for Coronavirus are outsiders and they don’t reside in Eastleigh.
But barely 24 hours after this remark, an Equity Bank employee from Eastleigh Branch has tested positive for the deadly disease.
The employee, who is of Somali origin, turned positive for COVID19, forcing the Bank to close its doors on Friday.
The employee is said to have infected hundreds if not thousands of clients
