Monday May 18, 2020 – Tharaka Nithi Senator, Prof Kithure Kindiki, has responded to claims that Jubilee Party is planning to axe him as Deputy Speaker in the Senate for associating himself with Deputy President William Ruto.
On Sunday, Senate Majority Whip, Irungu Kangata, confirmed that the party will be kicking out Kindiki from the powerful position of Deputy Speaker.
But in a quick rejoinder, Kindiki told the likes of Kangata that he was voted as a Senator by the good people of Tharaka Nithi and his appointment as Deputy Speaker is nothing to him.
“Those interested in taking the Deputy Speakership from me should go ahead and do so.”
“Leadership is action and not position.”
“I was voted to serve as a Senator and not appointed.”
“I gave my best during the campaigns to get Uhuru elected, including writing the Jubilee Manifesto and Party constitution,” Kindiki stated.
The outspoken Senator said that the Jubilee manifesto stated that after President Uhuru Kenyatta rules for 10 years, he will hand over to Ruto and anybody speaking anything different from that is a big fool.
“The journey we started in 2013 can only be meaningful if it ends with William Ruto serving ten years after Uhuru retires in 2022.”
“Any other arrangement is meaningless,” Kindiki stated.
