Thursday, May 28, 2020 – As the family late Kikuyu musician, Jimmy Wayuni, mourns his tragic death, one of his daughters has revealed that she had a strained relationship with the fallen benga maestro.
Taking to twitter, the lady by the name Mercy Murugi, who is a renowned filmmaker, revealed that she wasn’t that close with her father.
Mercy stated that she knew Wayuni’s music before she knew he was her father.
“I knew his music before he introduced himself as my father. It was a strange thing to process.” she wrote.
She also revealed that his death has re-united her with three of her sisters she had never met before.
However, she paid a glowing tribute to the fallen icon saying:
“Rest in peace jimmy wayuni githinji. Ours was a complicated father – daughter relationship. Both of us headstrong. Prolly got it from you. That and my eyes. Rest easy.
The singer, known for hit songs such as Airìtu a Ruiru, A, Karenjù and Mama Sululu, was headed to Nairobi from Ruiru when his car rammed into a lorry near Githurai 45.
