Friday, May 8, 2020 – The outgoing Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Samson Mwathethe has officially handed over the command of the military to the new Chief of Defence Forces, General Robert Kibochi.

The colorful ceremony was held on Friday at the Department of Defence Headquarters in Nairobi and graced by Defence Cabinet Secretary, Monica Juma, Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo among top-ranking Government officers.

General Mwathethe received a 17 gun salute as he handed over the Kenya Defence Forces flag and change of command certificate to Gen. Kibochi.

President Uhuru appointed Mwathethe to the position in May 2015 to replace General Julius Karangi.

Initially, his four-year tenure was supposed to end in 2019 but President Uhuru extended it by one year.
