Wednesday May 20, 2020 – Former Sports CS, Rashid Echesa, has been allowed to change his terms of freedom, substituting his Ksh1 million cash bail with Ksh 2 million bond in relation to the multi-billion scandal.
The former CS was released on February after being charged with 12 counts, ranging from forgery, obtaining money by false pretense to impersonating senior Government officials in a Ksh 39.5 billion firearms scandal.
According to reports, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, was also issued with a two-day deadline to respond to Echesa’s demands by Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheru.
The ex-CS wants his high-end cars that were impounded during his arrest returned.
He also demanded to be issued back his two firearms with the ammunition seized by DCI officers.
The orders were filed by his lawyers, Evans Ondieki, Cliff Ombeta and Brian Khaemba, who stated that the DPP was yet to respond.
Echesa was also tied to the death of Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei, a security officer attached to Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee Annex office.
DCI Goerge Kinoti alleged that Kenei, who was buried on Saturday, March 7th, did not commit suicide but was murdered, over his connection to the arms scandal.
