Sunday, May 31, 2020 – Seasoned news anchor, Betty Kyallo, has become the first high profile journalist to be fired by the loss-making K24 TV.
The celebrated media personality announced her exit from the Kenyatta family owned TV station on Saturday, May 30th.
The mother of one thanked her fans for their support during her 2-year stint at K24, adding that it was time to bid them farewell.
However, she did not reveal the circumstances behind her exit despite the popularity of her weekend program.
“I really appreciate you all.”
“It is now time for me to say goodbye here on K24 TV.”
“Thank you so much for all the support, I appreciate you, God bless you and I love you,” Betty stated.
We have established that Betty was fired after K24 decided to scrap its entire newsroom in a new deal that will see them partner with KTN for the news feed.
This means that all current news anchors and reporters at K24 will be sent home in the course of the coming week with the exception of Anne Kiguta, whose show Punchline will be the only news-related show that will air on K24.
Last week, another senior anchor at K24, Eric Njoka, took to social media to rant over the looming mass lay-off and accused President Uhuru of not giving a shit about his employees.
“Standard Group has officially bought some programs on K24 TV. So, K24 staff and MediaMax as a whole will be declared redundant in a month’s time…”
“They are getting rid of every person that you know, every face that you know on K24 TV, every producer, anchor, reporter, news editor that you know,” Njoka said.
“We are working for a President who does not care. It seems we are children of a lesser God because no one is listening to us,” Njoka lamented.
