Saturday, May 16, 2020 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced new measures to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus as confirmed cases in the country jump to 830.

Addressing the nation from State House, Nairobi, the President also revealed that 5 more people have succumbed to this deadly virus bringing the total number of deaths to 50.

What is worrying is that close to 30% of the recorded deaths occurred at home.

“Since the first recorded Covid-19 case, our country Kenya confirmed 830 infections that led to 50 deaths, close to 30% of these recorded deaths occurred at home,” he stated.

To curb the spread of Covid19, the Head of State announced a second extension of the 7pm to 5am nationwide curfew by 21 more days until June 6th.

Similarly, he announced that the cessation of movement into and out of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Mandera Counties is also extended until June 6th.

To curb the importation of cases, Uhuru announced the closure of the Kenya-Somalia and Kenya-Tanzania border for the next 30 days.

Only cargo trucks will be allowed into and out of the country during that period but only after drivers have undergone mandatory testing for Covid19 and turned out negative.
