Friday May 8, 2020 – President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, donated foodstuff to residents of Kimende in Kiambu County following appeals after floods and landslides in the area.
The families were part of many that have been affected by the heavy rains pounding the country and wreaking havoc.
Local musician Charles Manji appealed to Kenyans to support the affected families with food as they were accommodated by other residents at their homes.
And yesterday, the residents were recipients of personal protective equipment (PPE) and foodstuff from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother.
Ngina Kenyatta made the donation through former Kiambu Woman Representative, Anne Nyokabi, who oversaw the process.
Other than making the donation, Nyokabi also delivered Ngina’s message to Kimende residents who were thankful for the kind deed.
“Because of that plea, Her Excellency Mama Ngina Kenyatta heard the pleas made by the people and she sent me here to bring this flour so that they should eat with their families.”
“We thank her so much for her concern and her kindness in helping those who are less fortunate.”
“It is our plea that everybody should continue to follow the government’s directives.”
“We should protect ourselves and keep social distance and wash our hands,” said the former woman representative.
Charles Manji was grateful for the donation, “We thank Mama Ngina Kenyatta, when I called her to let her know about the landslides that happened in the area she listened to us.”
50 families were displaced by landslides and floods in Kimende following heavy rain at the weekend but luckily, no major injuries were reported.
